Joe Staley officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday.
Fantasy Impact
Staley played 13 seasons for the 49ers and made six Pro Bowls in his career. He started in 181 games and was considered one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. The 49ers recently acquired Trent Williams to replace Staley.
Offensive tackle Joe Staley has agreed to rework his contract with the San Francisco 49ers for 2018 and beyond, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Twitter. According to Rapoport, "He was due to make $11M combined in ‘18-‘19, but he’ll now make $17.4M in all. He gets a raise in 2018, $8.72M instead of $5.5M."
Fantasy Impact
This is a nice raise for Staley, as the 49ers are locking up some protection for their new franchise quarterback. Staley was due to make $11 million over the last two years of his contract but will now make $17.4 million, with an increase from $5.5 million to $8.72 million this year.
Joe Staley appears to be ahead of schedule after suffering a fractured orbital against the Eagles in Week 8 and is now expected to play on Sunday against the New York Giants.
Fantasy Impact
Staley has been one of the few bright spots for the 49ers in recent years and should provide a welcome boost to their offensive line. C.J. Beathard should have a bit more time to throw and while the 49ers offense isn't going to create waves, this does knock the Giants defense down a peg.
