According to team reporter Matt McMullen, Kansas City Chiefs TE Jody Fortson is being placed on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season.
Fantasy Impact
Fortson dealt with an elbow injury last season that brought him a short stint on IR, but now he will miss the whole 2023 season. In 2022, he had nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games after converting from wide receiver to tight end. As a tight end, he played on 21% of the team's offensive snaps and 51% of the special teams snaps. The Chiefs utilize a lot of 12 and 13 personnel in their offense, so Fortson will be missed as he did have a role in the system. The Chiefs will have to rely more on Noah Gray and Blake Bell in those packages in 2023.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Kansas City Chiefs are activating TE Jody Fortson (elbow) from injured reserve ahead of the conference championship.
Fantasy Impact
Fortson has not played since Dec. 18 against the Texans as he dealt with an elbow injury. The Chiefs utilize a rotation of tight ends behind Travis Kelce, so this is not likely an indication about Kelce’s injury status. Fortson had nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the regular season.
