Howard signing for the Bears is a big addition for one of the worst rush defenses in the league. If he stays healthy he could significantly improve the Bears defensive line. The Bears in 2016 gave up 121.9 yards-per-game on the ground while surrendering 4.4 yards-per-carry to opposing running backs. The Bears defense could surprise teams this year with their offseason additions. As of now, consider them a middle of the pack defense still and only consider them in the deepest of leagues.

Howard is coming off a hip injury which limited him to only five starts in 2016. During the eight games that Howard played in last season, he tallied 18 tackles, five assists, and one sack. If Howard signs with the Bears and can return to pre-injury form he would help solidify a defensive line that was the sixth worst in the NFL against the rush in 2016.
