Week 17 Outlook

Patriots RB James White has announced that he is retiring from the NFL.
Fantasy Impact
White has been dealing with an injury that he sustained last season, and his recovery has been very slow. He initially intended to play this season, but he is prioritizing his health and calling it a career. He has been a very effective back throughout his career, including a breakout performance that helped the Patriots beat the Falcons in the Super Bowl. For fantasy purposes, this opens the door for Rhamondre Stevenson and Pierre Strong to see a big uptick in receiving work for New England.
According to Mike Reiss, James White “was still walking with what appeared to be an uncomfortable gait” during a public appearance earlier this week.
Fantasy Impact
James White’s 2021 season was cut short after suffering a hip subluxation in Week 3 vs the New Orleans Saints. Though he underwent successful surgery, it remains unclear when he’ll be able to return to the field. White is a candidate to begin the year on the PUP list and should be avoided by fantasy managers until there is a clear-cut report on his readiness for the 2022 season. White is currently being drafted as RB65 in full-PPR leagues, according to FantasyPros average draft position.
Patriots RB James White has been limited during the team's off-season program.
Fantasy Impact
White was forced to miss most of last season due to an injury, and he remains limited at the team's minicamp. He is expected to be ready to go for the start of the season, but only time will tell if that's true. He was solid for fantasy purposes when he played last year, and if he's fully healthy this year, he can be an interesting bench stash for fantasy managers.
Veteran running back James White will be back in New England for two more years.
Fantasy Impact
The deal is worth $2.5 million with $500,000 guaranteed. The former fourth round pick of the Patriots, White has played his entire career under Bill Belichick, racking up 381 receptions for 1278 yards and 25 touchdowns. He is a safer play in PPR leagues for this purpose while keeping in mind that New England's backfield is one of the most unpredictable for fantasy in the league.
The Patriots placed RB James White (hip) on injured reserve.
Fantasy Impact
White is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 season due to hip surgery. Rhamondre Stevenson, Brandon Bolden, and J.J. Taylor could also see passing down work as Damien Harris continues to handle early down opportunities.
