Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said WR Ja’Lynn Polk is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

Polk missed time with a shoulder injury late last season, so the surgery was likely to address those issues. It was a lost rookie season for the receiver out of Washington as he looks to take a step forward with his role under a new coaching staff heading into next season. He will be a player to monitor in training camp.

Patriots vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said the team may have “put too much on his plate” in reference to Ja’Lynn Polk.

Polk could never find a rhythm on the field as a rookie last season. The wide receiver out of Washington caught just 12 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. He'll now have a full offseason with the team and a new coaching staff.

Polk continues to tend to a shoulder injury and has now missed both practice sessions to open the week. He will likely have to practice Friday to play in a Week 18 matchup with the Bills.

The second-round rookie out of Washington hasn't given fantasy managers, redraft and dynasty, much to go on this year. Polk simply hasn't seen enough of a target share consistently. When he has been targeted, back in Weeks 4-5, he had a combined 13 targets turn into just four catches for 43 yards. While in dynasty it's too early to let go of him, in redraft if you have been stashing him, he's best to drop to waivers.

The rookie was on the injury report heading into the week due to a concussion, but he was able to play on Sunday. He wasn't able to contribute at all, however, as he failed to record even a single catch over the course of the game. He has potential for the future, but there's very little chance that he becomes a strong fantasy contributor over the back half of the season.
