Jake Haener
QB - New Orleans Saints
Week 12 Outlook
Availability
Saints QB Jake Haener is officially active for Week 1.
Fantasy Impact
Haener will dress as the QB2 and serve as the backup to Derek Carr for Week 1. Spencer Rattler will serve as the emergency third QB and is inactive for the season opener.
Saints QB Jake Haener said he has a rare form of skin cancer and will be evaluated by a doctor in August.
Fantasy Impact
Haener said it’s not a life threatening thing but it’s a matter of how long he can wait before addressing it. Our thoughts are with him.
Jake Haener has been suspended for the first six games of the 2023 NFL season.
Fantasy Impact
Haener was selected in the fourth round by the Saints in this year's draft, and he will already have to miss the first six games of the season while serving his suspension. He reportedly violated the NFL's PED policy, but the specifics of this scenario are currently unknown. He was projected to be the third-string QB behind Derek Carr and Jameis Winston, but now, that role will probably fall on the shoulders of Taysom Hill for at least the first six weeks of the season.
Rookie QB Jake Haener completed 10-of-17 passes for 105 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Fantasy Impact
Haener, a fourth round rookie selection by New Orleans back in April, led a go-ahead touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City defense. Following some opening possession jitters, Haener looked more than capable of hanging in the pocket and delivering passes as needed. It remains to be seen if the Saints will carry three quarterbacks throughout the course of the 2023 season, but the rookie feels like a lock to make the team one way or another.
The New Orleans Saints have selected Fresno State QB Jake Haener with the No. 127 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Impact
Haener will now back up a fellow Fresno State alum, Derek Carr. Haener is a very capable quarterback who brings a little bit of everything as a passer. Haener has the potential to be a long-term passer or the eventual successor to Carr if things do not work out in New Orleans.
