Wide Receiver Donte Moncrief has been released by the Houston Texans.
Fantasy Impact
The former Indianapolis Colt has appeared in just 13 games and recorded five receptions over the last two seasons. He signed with Houston back in March but was released at the beginning of training camp. He's still just 27-years-old so he could latch on somewhere else as a special teamer but he's had zero fantasy value for quite some time.
The Texans are signing WR Donte Moncrief.
Fantasy Impact
Moncrief is a former third-round pick who mostly plays on special teams at this point in his career. He spent 2020 in New England but failed to make an impact, and he'll remain off the fantasy radar heading into 2021.
According to Patriots beat writer Doug Kyed, the Patriots are planning to promote WR Donte Moncrief from their practice squad.
Fantasy Impact
Moncrief has played five snaps in the past two weeks for New England, and it looks like he'll be a mainstay for the rest of the season. He caught one pass for 15 yards in Week 11 and handled KR duties in Week 12. He won't carry any fantasy value, but at 28-years old, Moncrief's role in the offense will be minimal as added receiver depth.
The Patriots signed WR Donte Moncrief to the practice squad on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Moncrief was released by the Jets in mid-October. He did not record a catch all season and was mainly used as emergency depth. The Patriots wide receiver corps is currently banged up, Moncrief could work his way to the active roster. The 27-year-old WR is currently not worth rostering in fantasy leagues for now.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets are planning to sign FA WR Donte Moncrief once he passes through his COVID-19 protocols.
Fantasy Impact
The Jets have been in dire need for some help at receiver after losing Vyncint Smith to core muscle surgery and with rookie Denzel Mims still not practicing due to a hamstring issue. Moncrief, along with Chris Hogan, should provide some much needed depth for Sam Darnold to begin the year. The Jets will be Moncrief's third team in the last year and he will likely remain irrelevant for fantasy purposes.
