Chargers running back Detrez Newsome suffered a right leg injury after catching a pass out in the flat and being hit by linebacker Kyle Wilson on Sunday. He left the practice.

Newsome has an opportunity in Los Angeles given the holdout of star running back Melvin Gordon, but an injury would obviously derail such an opportunity. He remains behind Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in the Los Angeles backfield but would definitely have a shot at pushing for playing time if Gordon's holdout continues into the regular season. Look for an update on his status on Monday.

Detrez Newsome rushed six times for 34 yards in the Chargers' 29-28 win over the Chiefs Thursday night. He added two receptions for 19 yards on two targets.

Fantasy Impact

Newsome was the backup to Justin Jackson Thursday with Melvin Gordon (knee) and Austin Ekeler (neck, concussion) out. Newsome returns to irrelevance for the fantasy finals with Gordon expected back.
