Darian Thompson

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, veteran free agent safety Darian Thompson visited with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday.

Thompson, who was a 3rd round pick in 2016 out of Boise State, played his last four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. Throughout his NFL career Thompson has been a depth player who has been unable to grab ahold of a starting safety position. Thompson spent most of last season on Dallas’ practice squad, but he made appearances in five games and only recorded 3 total tackles on the season. If Thompson were to sign, he would compete with Khari Willis, Julian Blackmon, and newly signed Rodney McLeod for playing time in Indianapolis in 2022.

Darian Thompson racked up nine total tackles (seven solo) and a sack during Thursday’s 31-24 loss to the Bears. Thompson had his second straight start in place of Jeff Heath (shoulder).

Thompson was impressive on Thursday and over the past two games, he has accumulated 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks. If Heath misses any more games, Thompson is a decent replacement player in deeper leagues.
