Week 13 Outlook
Availability
Corey Washington was released by the Giants early Saturday morning.
Fantasy Impact
Many expected a leap out of Washington in his second season but his shortcomings were noticeable as a special team player. Washington also injured his shoulder in Tuesdays practice which assisted in him being cut. Washington is now a free agent.
Giants WR Corey Washington may see more snaps in the coming weeks, due to the struggles of Preston Parker and Rueben Randle. Washington, an undrafted free agent, excelled in pre-season and had a nice series in garbage time in Week 9 in which he scored a TD.
Fantasy Impact
The Giants are reluctant to move Odell Beckham and/or Rueben Randle into the slot position full time, and rightfully so, so Washington's uptick in use may be sporadic. That said, Washington does possess capable play making ability and could force the issue if he makes the most of his increased time on the field. He's worth monitoring in deeper leagues right now as a potential waiver claim in the later weeks of the fantasy season.
Pre-season star Corey Washington caught his first NFL touchdown in the blowout loss to the Colts in Week 9. He finished the evening with a 4/48/1 line.
Fantasy Impact
All of his receptions and yards (including the TD) came in garbage time late in the blowout loss. Notwithstanding, Washington's ability to make plays on an abysmal night when many of the Giants' play makers failed to do the same, may have earned Washington some playing time in the coming weeks, and additional opportunities to prove he belongs in the lineup. He is worth keeping an eye on for fantasy purposes if the Giants begin to use him more in three WR sets going forward.
Giants undrafted free agent, and pre-season standout, Corey Washington has confirmed this morning on Twitter that he has made the roster.
Fantasy Impact
Washington presently sits behind 4 WRs on the Giants depth chart, so he is not worth drafting. However, given recurring hamstring issues Odell Beckham may have this season and continuing miscommunication issues between Eli Manning and Rueben Randle, keep Washington on your radar as a potential mid-season waiver wire/free agent pick up. Washington may move up on the depth chart as the season progresses. Victor Cruz serves as the latest example of the Giants' success with utilizing undrafted free agent WRs.
