Carson Strong completes one pass Saturday

Carson Strong completed one of his three pass attempts in Saturday's loss to the Dolphins in Miami.

Fantasy Impact

Strong received the largest signing bonus of any undrafted free agent this spring, but he has struggled to prove he is healthy enough and ready to compete at the NFL level throughout the summer. The Eagles likely want to stash him on their practice squad while he continues his development, but he is not expected to make the final 53-man roster.

Carson Strong agrees to UDFA deal with Eagles

The Eagles have signed former Nevada QB Carson Strong as an undrafted free agent, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. He received a $20,000 signing bonus and a $300,000 base guarantee in a clear indication that he was a priority free agent for the Eagles who will have a chance to make the roster.

Fantasy Impact

Strong entered the 2022 NFL Draft with an impressive college resume but also injury concerns because of a chronic knee condition. With the 2022 quarterback class generally considered weak, many analysts expected Strong to be drafted despite the medical red flags. While he ultimately went undrafted, a dozen teams reportedly approached him about a free agent deal. In Philadelphia, he lands in a situation where the Eagles have Jalen Hurts atop the quarterback depth chart and Gardner Minshew as the backup. Neither is a lock to be with the Eagles long-term, and there have been trade rumors surrounding Minshew dating back to last season, so Strong should have an opportunity to make the roster if he can prove that he is healthy.

Carson Strong visiting with the Steelers today

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that former Nevada QB Carson Strong is visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers today.

Fantasy Impact

If Pittsburgh fans are hoping to find a Big Ben clone to run the offense after his retirement this off-season, Carson Strong is the closest thing available in the draft. Strong has dealt with a degenerative knee issue since high school which has required multiple surgeries and has essentially made him immobile and incapable of getting outside of the pocket. Strong has the strongest arm in the draft class outside of Malik Willis, and he’s got a quick release to help fit balls into tight windows at the next level. Strong isn’t projected to be a first round pick, but he could be someone that hears his name called on day 2. Interesting fantasy tidbit for fantasy managers to ponder: since 2010, 100% of non power-5 QB’s that were selected in the 2nd round of NFL drafts have went on to have QB2 fantasy production as their career average (Derek Carr - Fresno State, Jimmy Garoppolo - Eastern Illinois, and Colin Kaepernick - Nevada). Small sample size, but if Strong is selected in the 2nd round, he could be worth a late round flyer in dynasty leagues.
