Jacksonville targeted receivers who Brice McCain covered seven times on Sunday. Blake Bortles completed four of those passes for a total of 80 yards, including connecting with Allen Robinson on a 54 yard reception. In two games, passes thrown McCain’s way have been caught for 129 yards.
Fantasy Impact
We knew that the secondary was going to be an area of concern for the team defensively. The team's D/ST value should be dropping especially for owners looking for sacks, of which the Dolphins have only one in two games.
With under eight minutes left in the game, Brice McCain intercepted a Kirk Cousins' pass intended for Pierre Garcon near the goal line. It's going to be one of the highlight plays of the season. He also finished the day with six combined tackles.
Fantasy Impact
McCain came through in a big way stopping what could have been the tying score for Washington. The Miami defense wasn't as dominant as they were expected to be on Sunday, but they came through when it counted.
According to the latest Dolphins depth chart, Brice McCain will be the starter opposite Brent Grimes in the season opener versus Washington. McCain was initially signed to be the slot corner.
Fantasy Impact
The Dolphins are a favorite D/ST and DFS play going into Week 1 versus the Kirk Cousins' led Washington offense.
Joe Philbin said during his interview at the owners meeting that McCain is set to play at nickle. Jimmy Wilson left a hole when he signed with the Chargers. McCain will join Jamar Taylor and Will Davis as the Dolphins try to find a match across from Brent Grimes.
Fantasy Impact
McCain had been an inconsistent player in his tenure with the Steelers and lacks traditional height but like Grimes he has quickness and leaping ability that help make up for his size. The Dolphins will likely add more to the secondary in the upcoming draft.
The Dolphins have signed the former sixth-round pick who played his first four seasons with the Texans and last year with the Steelers. The two-year deal is worth $5.5 million with $3 million guaranteed.
Fantasy Impact
The Dolphins have to strengthen their secondary. Cortland Finnegan was released, nickel back Jimmy Wilson and safety Louis Delmas are free agents and may not return. This is the first step that the Dolphins need to make towards solidifying that group.
