With Murray out of the picture, Sean Mannion is slated to enter the 2017 season as Jared Goff's primary backup. Murray should be claimed sooner rather than later by another club to compete for a backup role for the upcoming season.

Murray's release was inevitable after the Chiefs signed Nick Foles in the offseason. The young signal caller will likely catch on with another quarterback-needy club before the start of the regular season. The Cowboys and Vikings could be in the mix to sign Murray when its all said and done.

Murray played the entire second half on Thursday night against the Rams in the Chiefs final preseason game. Murray went 11-of-15 for 86 yards and a touchdown to help lead the Chiefs to a 24-17 victory.

Fantasy Impact

Murray is the number three quarterback on the Chiefs depth chart this season. Murray is entering his second season with the Chiefs after playing his college football at Georgia. It would take injury or ineffectiveness from both Alex Smith and Chase Daniel for Murray to get his opportunity with the Chiefs.
