Trent Williams set to return for 16th season with 49ers

49ers GM John Lynch shared Wednesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that Trent Williams (ankle) is “motivated” to play a 16th NFL season and will stay with San Francisco. The 36-year-old left tackle, a cornerstone of the line, held strong as an elite performer in 2024 when healthy, though a left ankle injury sidelined him for the final seven games, limiting him to 10 starts. Williams is on the mend from that injury, with Lynch signaling confidence in his return as the team’s starting left tackle in 2025.

Fantasy Impact:

Williams’ return is a quiet win for fantasy managers rostering 49ers skill players—think Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, or George Kittle. His top-tier blocking keeps the offense humming, though last year’s 10-game stint highlights durability concerns at 36. The ankle recovery bears watching, but a full offseason should have him ready to anchor the line. No direct fantasy value at tackle, but his presence boosts Purdy’s protection and McCaffrey’s lanes—keep those guys high on your draft board.
