Trey Lance to be new starter in San Francisco

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and 49ers general manager John Lynch had a conversation with QB Jimmy Garoppolo that the team has "moved on to [QB Trey Lance]." (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Lance is younger than every QB that was drafted in 2022 with the exception of QB Sam Howell, according to PFF's Mike Renner. Coming out of North Dakota State, he was seen as a ball-of-clay prospect with a high ceiling. The 49ers invested heavy capital trading for the third overall pick to select Lance. The 49ers flirted with keeping Garoppolo, who had been very successful with the team, in terms of winning, at least, but the inevitable seemed to come — the 49ers are finally going all in on the youngster and their future. Even if he needs more time to develop as a passer, which it seems may be the case if his rookie season was an indication, his rushing ability alone raises Lance's floor highly for fantasy purposes. With security finally there, fantasy managers can see Lance's average draft position of QB14 as a potential bargain and lottery ticket in 2022.
