Houston Texans RB David Johnson acknowledged his reduced role with the team heading into 2021, per Aaron Reiss of The Athletic. (Aaron Reiss of The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact:
The 29-year old former All-Pro running back has not looked the same as he did when he dominated with the Cardinals, averaging a low 0.94 yards per route run last season with the Texans. The signing of Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram could leave Johnson as the third-down option, which he addressed to the media, saying, "Obviously, as it’s going on, in the moment it’s tough...But I think in the long run, it will just help out the team as a whole." Lindsay is currently valued as the RB53 in half-PPR formats and could return RB4 or perhaps RB3 value if Johnson's role really does wind up reduced to a third-down role. Johnson's RB35 value is too high if this holds true, making him a fade in most redraft leagues in favor of Zack Moss, Kenyan Drake, or James Conner later within the eighth round.
