Drew Brees expected to make announcement regarding retirement soon

Saints head coach Sean Payton said that he expects an announcement to come "in the next week or two" from Drew Brees regarding his speculative retirement. However, he did not say whether he was officially retiring or not. (Pick Six Podcast on Twitter)

Payton went on to talk about how Brees had excessive wear and tear on his body this year. Prior to the Saints' loss to Buccaneers, Jay Glazer reported that it was going to be Brees's final game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Brees missed a handful of games with broken ribs and a punctured lung and struggled to push the ball downfield, even when healthy. About to turn 43years old in less than two weeks, Brees is expected to hang up the cleats this offseason. Still, a formal announcement should come sometime within a week after this Sunday's Super Bowl.
