Orleans Darkwa sparks Giants offense in loss to Chargers

by Mark Leipold | Tue, Oct 10th 1:25pm EDT

Orleans Darkwa carried the ball eight times for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 5 loss to the Chargers. He added one reception for 4 yards on four targets.

Fantasy Impact:

Darkwa trailed rookie Wayne Gallman in touches (16), and was tied with Shane Vereen with nine touches. Darkwa, however, looked the most explosive of the backfield trio in the game. On the down side, Darkwa played fewer snaps (20) than either Gallman (27) or Vereen (23). It is worth noting that Darkwa was banged up late in the first quarter with a hamstring injury, and used less after then. He did appear to be the lead man before that point, though. While Darkwa would be the most enticing fantasy option to win the job outright, this appears to be a full-blown committee if Darkwa is not 100%, even without Paul Perkins active. For fantasy purposes, each RB is a weekly dart throw. Gallman seems the best bet to get the most touches if Darkwa is limited, but Darkwa has more big play upside, so either one can have decent weeks, but neither will have much of a floor with the committee in place. For Week 6, consider Darkwa day-to-day and monitor his status throughout the week. He's worthy of a flex play in a decent matchup for the running game against Denver only if he's 100% and is set to lead the backfield.
