Ryan Mathews could be released when medically cleared

by Anthony Cervino | Tue, Jul 4th 8:23am EDT

Philadelphia Eagles beat writer Jimmy Kempski is reporting the Eagles can avoid salary cap ramifications if they move on from Ryan Mathews (neck) when he is medically cleared. (Philly Voice)

Fantasy Impact:

If the Eagles part ways with Mathews before he is medically cleared, they will be forced to pay him $1.15 million as part of an injury settlement if he does not pass a physical with another club, which will count against the 2017 salary cap. The oft-injured rusher's days in Philadelphia are likely numbered, despite the remarks by teammate Darren Sproles last week in which he said that both Mathews and LeGarrette Blount would split the early-down workload. The Eagles' backfield is one to monitor moving forward until the team ultimately comes to a decision on Mathews' future.
