Vernon Carey Jr. traded to Washington

Charlotte is acquiring Washington center Montrezl Harrell for Vernon Carey and Ish Smith.

Fantasy Impact

Harrell had been linked to a number of teams ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, so this comes as no surprise. It will be worth watching to see if Harrell remains in his sixth-man role or if he replaces Mason Plumlee in the starting lineup. Smith and Carey still likely won't carry too much fantasy basketball value with the Wizards.

Vernon Carey Jr. scores 21 points, collects six rebounds in loss to Nets

Vernon Carey Jr. scored 21 points (9-14 FG, 1-2 3PT, 2-2 FT) with six rebounds, an assist, and a block across 35 minutes during Friday's 130-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

Fantasy Impact

The rookie center out of Duke earned his first start with the Hornets on Friday, as head coach James Borrego attempts to deploy new lineups to end Charlotte's losing skid. Carey Jr. finished with 21 points and six rebounds across 35 minutes and is available on virtually all ESPN waiver wires heading into the fantasy playoffs. It remains to be seen whether VCJ will get another opportunity in the starting lineup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday but his performance against the Nets was certainly encouraging.

Vernon Carey Jr. selected No. 32 by the Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets selected C Vernon Carey Jr. with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Fantasy Impact

The former Duke freshman averaged 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.6 blocks across 24.9 minutes per game. He'll join a Hornets frontcourt that has a massive need for help, currently starting C Cody Zeller with backup C Bismack Biyombo. Carey Jr. is certainly in play as the Hornets center of the future.
