The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have requested waivers on forward Rasual Butler. Butler, who was in his first season with the Spurs, was signed as a free agent on Sept. 28, 2015. He saw action in 46 games for the Silver and Black, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 9.4 minutes.
Fantasy Impact
This was a roster move to make room for their new signing, Kevin Martin.
With the conclusion of his current contract with Washington, the 36-year-old veteran Rasual Butler likes the direction that the franchise is moving and would love to return to the team.
Fantasy Impact
With season averages of 7.7 points per game (42.2 FG% & 38.7 3PT%) in 20.1 minutes per game, Butler was a legitimate contributor during several stretches of the season. If he does resign, he will likely have spurts of fantasy value next season but won't be worth drafting outside of extremely deep leagues.
Rasual Butler provided the spark against the Kings and had 14 points (6-10 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range), five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in 27 minutes.
Fantasy Impact
Without Nene (personal), Wizards opted to play a smaller lineup that included Butler more. Butler hasn't been great recently and isn't worth a pickup.
Rasual Butler absorb all of Bradley Beal's (rest) minutes but was awful with nine points (3-11 from the field, 1-7 from three-point range, 2-2 from the line), three rebounds, one assist, one block, and four turnovers.
Fantasy Impact
Butler had a good chance of being a solid plug-and-play option without Beal, but was a miss tonight. Butler won't have a similar opportunity again soon with Beal expected to play on Monday so he should stay on the wire.
Rasual Butler only scored two points on 1-of-6 shooting with two rebounds and two assists in a poor effort despite the absence of Bradley Beal.
Fantasy Impact
Butler was one of the many players off the Wizards' bench that had an off night. Expect him to lead the second unit in scoring in around 20 minutes with little upside if Bradley Beal sits out again.
