Luc Mbah a Moute has cleared the coronavirus protocol and is due to arrive in Orlando today, per coach Mike D’Antoni. In speaking on his joining the team, D’Antoni said, “He’ll be a great presence in the locker room.”
Fantasy Impact
Moute had a productive year with the Rockets during the 2017-18 NBA season, where he played in 61 contests and averaged 25.6 minutes of playing time, 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. Last year he played in four games with the Clippers before being waived. Moute could fill in at the four or five, but with the amount of depth the Rockets have in their front-court, it is unlikely that he sees meaningful minutes come playoff time. He is a natural fade in all formats at this time.
Jonathan Feigen is reporting on Twitter that Rockets newly acquired forward Luc Mbah a Moute did not fly with the team to Orlando.
Fantasy Impact
Mbah a Moute joins James Harden and Russell Westbrook as the only Rockets players not to fly with the team to Orlando. It's currently unknown as to why the 11-year vet did not travel with the team but more information should be made available sooner than later. Mbah a Moute recently signed with the Rockets on July 7th.
Luc Mbah a Moute has officially signed his contract with the Houston Rockets ahead of the NBA restart in Orlando later this month.
Fantasy Impact
This doesn't come as a surprise as it was reported last week that Houston would be signing Mbah a Moute after Thabo Sefolosha announced he would opt-out of the Orlando restart. The terms of the deal are currently unknown at this point, but his presence will surely add some depth behind an already loaded Houston front court. The 11-year vet last played for the Clippers in 2018-2019 before injuring his knee early in the season.
The Houston Rockets are planning to sign Luc Mbah a Moute once the NBA season resumes in Orlando.
Fantasy Impact
This will be Mbah a Moute's second stint in Houston as he appeared in 61 games for them back in the 2017-2018 campaign, averaging 7.5 points in 25.6 minutes off of the bench. The Rockets also brought him in for a workout back in March so it's clear he has been on their radar for some time. This report also comes shortly after Rockets forward Thabo Sefolosha announced he would opt-out of the Orlando restart, so it doesn't come as a surprise that Houston would want to add some depth. The Rockets have a great deal of talent in the front court after acquiring Robert Covington, DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Green earlier in the season, so the 11-year vet will likely play a small role off of the bench in Orlando.
Luc Mbah a Moute, who was seen doing some light work on Thursday, is declared OUT for Friday's road game against the Phoenix Suns. The general consensus is that he is 10-14 days away from returning.
Fantasy Impact
This return date seems to be getting pushed out more and more as the time goes on. Either way, he will be a welcome addition once he returns and Mike Scott and Tyrone Wallace will likely bear the brunt of the minutes impact once the staunch defender comes back to the lineup.
