Beno Udrih has been waived by the Pistons. With Reggie Jackson healthy and Ish Smith playing so well in the preseason, Udrih became expendable.
Fantasy Impact
The team could always re-sign Udrih if Jackson gets hurt or traded. To open this season, fantasy owners should consider Smith over Jackson. However, Jackson does have the greater upside.
The Pistons were looking for a veteran point guard to become available and they got their guy in Udrih, who was waived by the Heat. With Reggie Jackson out 4-to-6 weeks due to injury, Udrih will slide into a backup role behind G Ish Smith.
Fantasy Impact
Udrih will not have any value unless something happens to Smith.
Beno Udrih was waived by the Miami Heat after reaching a buyout agreement to get the team under the luxury tax threshold.
Fantasy Impact
A move like this is quite unusual and has angered some other teams around the league for the two reasons. The first is that the Heat let go of a player who was ruled out for the season due to foot surgery and Udrih even left money on the table to reach a buyout agreement with the team. Second, and even more infuriating to other teams, is that all non-tax paying teams get a lower slice of other teams' luxury tax payments with the Heat now back under the tax threshold. Considering Udrih's health and age, it is unlikely that another team will want to sign him before next season, or at all.
Beno Udrih's surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his right foot was successful. He will miss three months.
Fantasy Impact
Udrih's season is finished. Unless the Heat go out and pick up some cheap help at point guard, then Josh Richardson will be the only point guard coming off the bench for the Heat. He is not worthy of a pickup.
After having an MRI on Tuesday, Beno Udrih will have season-ending surgery on his right foot.
Fantasy Impact
Udrih has averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 assists per game this season as the main backup to Goran Dragic in the wake of Tyler Johnson's shoulder injury. Johnson was also lost for the season, making Udrih the second Heat point guard to end his season due to an injury. Josh Richardson will be the next man up to run the point behind Dragic.
