The Minnesota Twins have claimed pitcher Zack Weiss off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Weiss was designated for assignment by Boston on Jan. 31 but has latched on with the Twins. The right-hander tossed a 3.21 ERA between the Angels and Red Sox in 2023 but also scuffled to a 6.03 ERA with Triple-A Salt Lake within the Angels organization.

Weiss was the 40-man roster casualty required to clear a spot for utility player Romy Gonzalez who was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander posted a quality 3.21 ERA in 12 outings with the White Sox in 2023 but also scuffled to a 6.03 ERA in 30 appearances at the Triple-A level.

Weiss, 27, posted a 7.24 ERA in 27 1/3 innings last season between the Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the Twins before finishing the year with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. He has spent the past seven years in the Reds/Twins organizations, only appearing in one major league game with the Reds in 2018. Weiss will report to minor league camp and will not be in the running for an Opening Day roster spot with the Indians.
