Mets minor league outfielder Tim Tebow announced his retirement from baseball on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Tebow attempted to make a go of things in baseball after his professional football career fizzled out, and he surprised many by having some success in the minor leagues. In 2018 in Double-A, Tebow had a .734 OPS with six home runs and a stolen base. He reached Triple-A in 2019 but struggled mightily, and the lost 2020 minor league season ended any chance that the now 33-year-old had at making it to the big leagues.
OF Tim Tebow is in consideration for one of the spots in the Mets’ player pool.
Fantasy Impact
Tebow was not on the original roster pool sent by the Mets on Sunday. The team has 10 spots opened, and the former NFL QB is being considered for one of them. Tebow struggled mightily in Triple-A last season, slashing .163/.240/.255 with four homers, 19 RBI, 25 runs scored and two stolen bases across 264 plate appearances.
Tim Tebow has been reassigned to minor league camp.
Fantasy Impact
This was an expected move with Tebow entering the spring likely to begin the season in Triple-A.
Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen says that outfielder Tim Tebow will likely begin the 2019 season in Triple-A.
Fantasy Impact
Van Wagenen also did not rule out the possibility of Tebow making the opening day roster. Part of him saying that is probably to grab some headlines, but Tebow is reportedly "on a mission" to play in the majors next year. If that happens it would be fascinating to see how Tebow fares. Many didn't expect him to even get this far.
The New York Mets have re-assigned "outfielder" Tim Tebow to the minors.
Fantasy Impact
Tebow finishes the spring with just one hit in 19 plate appearances. He struck out 11 times. He's expected to begin the season in Double-A. It would still be a major surprise if he ever gets to the big leagues.
