Rangers reliever Shawn Kelley has been activated off the 10-day injured list before the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians, according to reports.
Fantasy Impact
Kelley is returning on Wednesday but will not be the closer in Texas, as the Rangers announced on Tuesday that Jose Leclerc would be taking over as closer even after Kelley returned. That move has more to do with Leclerc's four-year extension this offseason and his recent success than anything else, as Kelley rejoins the Rangers with a 3.00 ERA and 32 strikeouts over 33 innings. He will work as the setup man in Texas for the time being, unless Leclerc is unavailable or struggles.
Shawn Kelley was placed on the 10-day injured list with right biceps muscle soreness Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Kelley suffered the injury while warming up during Sunday's game against the Astros, and while an MRI showed no serious injury. Rafael Montero was promoted in a corresponding move. The Rangers have yet to announce who will temporarily replace Kelley as the team's closer, but the sure bet would be Jose LeClerc.
Shawn Kelley (5-2) pitched a perfect inning Friday earning the win over the Astros.
Fantasy Impact
Kelley pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure his fifth win of the season. He has been quite the surprise for fantasy owners, and owns a 3.00 ERA with 11 saves on the season.
Shawn Kelley (4-2) allowed two hits across two shutout innings Sunday, striking out two batters and earning the win over the Twins.
Fantasy Impact
Kelley pitched two scoreless innings Sunday. He was able to bounce back from Saturday's outing, where he yielded two runs in a loss. Kelley owns a 3.09 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, with 11 saves this season.
Shawn Kelley allowed no runs on two hits, no walks, and three strikeouts on Thursday to earn a save.
Fantasy Impact
Kelley's save was his 11th of the season. He's got a 2.79 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts through 29 games. He's a rock solid option right now.
