Sergio Santos does not make Opening Day roster

After a lights out beginning to Spring Training, Sergio Santos stumbled at the end and was subsequently told that he did not make the Opening Day roster. Paco Rodriguez, Yimi Garcia, and Pedro Baez beat out David Huff, Sergio Santos, and David Aardsma for the final three bullpen spots.

Fantasy Impact

With Kenley Jansen and Brandon League out to begin the season, it looks like the Dodgers will employ a closer-by-committee. General Manager Farhan Zaidi doesn't "think it's that important. That plays itself out over the course of the season." I've seen it mentioned that Chirs Hatcher will get the first shot, but the fact that the Dodgers are carrying three left-handed pitchers seems to confirm the "play the matchups" scenario.

Sergio Santos serves up home run

Sergio Santos served up a home run to Derek Norris after Yangervis Solarte reached on an error. The two runs were the first allowed all Spring Training.

Fantasy Impact

Manager Don Mattingly intimated that he may employ a closer-by-committee while Kenley Jansen is out. All potential replacements therefore take a hit. Managers don't always do what they say though. If one guy is lights out, it's happened in the past where that guy runs away with the job. Santos is in the mix, has prior closing experience, and has "stuff" that misses bats.

Sergio Santos strikes out four in an inning

Sergio Santos had an eventful inning Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. He struck out the first three batters he faced. Unfortunately, one of those runners reached first on a wild pitch then advanced to second on a throwing error. The next two batters singled then Santos struck out the final batter.

Fantasy Impact

It was the first earned run given up by Santos this Spring. The control has been there all Spring so far and he's displaying his devasting arsenal. I believe Santos remains the favorite to close for injured Kenley Jansen.

Sergio Santos with another good outing

Sergio Santos gave up his first hit and baserunner of Spring Training Sunday against the Seattle Mariners. That baserunner was then erased on a double play ball. Santos did not walk or strikeout a batter.

Fantasy Impact

Santos had pitched three perfect innings prior to Sunday's outing. He's recorded four strikeouts, zero walks, zero earned runs, and the one hit. The walk total is the key. If he harnesses that, Santos can be devastating. A big if though. Santos seems to be the leader to replace Kenley Jansen for now.

Sergio Santos pitches his third perfect inning of the spring

Sergio Santos was lights out again Thursday night. He struck out two Padres in his lone inning of work.

Fantasy Impact

The control has been there and the slider is as devastating as ever. Early in the spring, Santos looks to be the front runner to replace Kenley Jansen as interim closer. There is alot of baseball left before Opening Day for Mattingly to make a decision so I'm not crowning him but it's an interesting situation to monitor.
