Availability
Lonnie Chisenhall was hit by a pitch earlier this week and has a broken hand. He's expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks.
Fantasy Impact
It was expected that Chisenhall would be in the lineup today despite the hit by pitch earlier in the week. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and he will be out for a while. He's not worth a draft or hold at this point as there are much better options available for your outfield.
Lonnie Chisenhall went 0-for-2 in his return to Pittsburgh's spring lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Impact
Chisenhall suffered "lower extremity tightness" last week, but apparently a few days of rest was enough to resolve the issue for the veteran outfielder. Chisenhall will compete for a spot on the bench in Pittsburgh this spring, and may get the chance to play in the regular season while Gregory Polanco (shoulder) recovers from his shoulder injury. Still, Chisenhall isn't worth drafting outside of NL-only leagues.
Lonnie Chisenhall left the Pirates' Saturday spring training contest against the Yankees early with "lower extremity tightness".
Fantasy Impact
Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic hinted that this injury could be related to the calf ailment Chisenhall dealt with last season, an injury that limited him to just 29 games with Cleveland. Chisenhall has proven competent with the bat in his career, posting a .291 AVG and .815 OPS over the last three seasons, however, his poor defense and large platoon splits have restricted him from ever becoming an every day player. This injury only puts him farther out of the mix for a spot on the bench this spring.
The Pirates have signed Lonnie Chisenhall to a one-year, $2.75 million deal.
Fantasy Impact
Chisenhall battled through injuries for the second consecutive season last year, playing in just 29 Major League games with the Indians. He'll likely play right field until Gregory Polanco returns from his injury, and then should take over in a utility role. He will have some fantasy value, but it is limited to NL-only leagues.
Lonnie Chisenhall will be placed on the disabled list after suffering a moderate calf strain, Zack Meisel of The Athletic Cleveland reports.
Fantasy Impact
The fact that the strain is labeled as moderate is a good sign. It sounds like Chisenhall should not miss much more than the 10 days but fantasy owners should still keep an eye on updates.
