In a game where the Mets needed to make a statement on their quickly deteriorating season, Logan Verrett pitched like he was throwing in an intra-squad game in March. In just 2 2/3 innings, Verrett gave up six hits, eight earned runs, three walks and four home runs to the Padres. Verrett's ERA rose to 5.36 on the season and the Mets fell to the Padres 8-6.
Fantasy Impact
The Mets will reportedly remove Verrett from the starting rotation and replace him with Jonathon Niese. That's like removing a broken light bulb from a light fixture and replacing it with a sponge. Verrett holds no fantasy value and should be ignored in all formats.
Logan Verrett lasted just 3 2/3 innings on Saturday against the Tigers allowing seven hits, six earned runs and two walks as the Mets lost 6-5. Following the game, manager Terry Collins implied that there could be a change in the rotation. Verrett is winless with a 5.61 ERA in six starts since Matt Harvey was sent to the disabled list and underwent season-ending surgery. Presumably, Jonathon Niese would take Verrett's spot in the rotation.
Fantasy Impact
Neither Verrett nor Niese hold any fantasy value, so steer clear of these pitchers unless you want to set historic league records in ERA and WHIP futility.
