Baltimore Orioles first baseman Lewin Diaz remains out of action as he deals with left shoulder inflammation.

The 26-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup after experiencing left shoulder soreness while swinging the bat prior to the contest against the Pirates. Diaz appeared in 58 games with the Miami Marlins in 2022 but struggled to a .169 average with five home runs, one stolen base, and a .512 OPS across 174 trips to the plate.

Diaz was originally DFA'd by the Marlins earlier this offseason and has since been picked up by the Pirates, Orioles, and Braves. He could be with his fifth team since November 15 if someone decides to claim him off waivers.

Diaz has shown the ability to perform at high levels of the minors but never in MLB. In 343 career plate appearances, Diaz has a slash of .181/.227/.340 with 13 home runs. The Pirates have Ji-Man Choi pencilled in at 1B so it’s possible Diaz could battle Choi or even Miguel Andujar for playing time.

Diaz has had very little success with the bat in the bigs so far this year. He did come with a couple of extra-base hits Sunday though, including his first homer of the year for the Marlins. Through 84 MLB plate appearances this season, Diaz has put up just a .164 AVG and .500 OPS.
