Kevin Correia

The Philadelphia Phillies have designated veteran SP Kevin Correia for assignment, the team has announced. Severino Gonzalez has been recalled and will be starting on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Correia was another veteran arm the Phillies tried to pull in to eat innings in what's become a season to forget. The right-hander was unable to do so, posting a 6.56 ERA over 23 1/3 innings. He was walking nearly as many batters as he struck out per nine innings, and his fastball velocity was below 90 mph.

After a solid return to the mound in his first start, Kevin Correia was unable to repeat his success in the Bronx. The New York Yankees managed to 5 runs on Correia in just 4 innings of work. Fortunately, Michael Pineda was blown up by the Philies bats which allowed Correia to avoid the loss.

Fantasy Impact

Correia was very hit-able against the Yankees, a trend that has plagued through out his career as he has managed just a 1.42 WHIP over the past 13 seasons. Correia may be good enough to take advantage of a weak opponent, but even then don't expect much more then an average start.

Kevin Correia didn't miss a beat in his first appearence of 2015. Correia held the Pirates to a scoreless 5.2 innings while striking out 4 hitters. In addition, Correia's WHIP was a strong 1.06 reflecting his solid command on the day.

Fantasy Impact

As far as first starts go, this was a beauty for Correia. There is still a lot to be seen, but on a staff that has been shaky of late, Correia's outing shows some promise that may translate into fantasy success down the road.
