In a pinch-hit scenario in the bottom of the ninth inning, Jose Tabata was hit by a Max Scherzer pitch to end his perfect game. Scherzer needed just one more out to secure the feat.
Fantasy Impact
The HBP had little impact on the outcome out the game, but it will remain a permanent blemish for Scherzer, who has flirted with perfection his last few outings. Some argued Tabata leaned into the pitch, perhaps it was some stern gamesmanship The Pirates (39-29) will try to bounce back today against Gio Gonzalez.
Jose Tabata went 2-for-4 Wednesday with an RBI to help the Pirates complete a sweep against the San Francisco Giants. The versatile outfielder is beginning to show some promise during his limited playing time.
Fantasy Impact
In just 18 at-bats in 2015, Tabata has collected five hits and driven in three. The young outfielder could see more playing time if Gregory Polanco's up-and-down season continues.
Jose Tabata is changing his swing in an effort to get more leverage on the ball. It is the hope of both the Pirates and Tabata that this change will lead to more home runs, as he has only 17 in 1,554 major league at bats.
Fantasy Impact
Although the Pirates starting outfield is set with Tabata looking in from the outside, he could very well make the team as a fourth outfielder. He could be someone worth keeping your eye on if his swing truly does create more power, especially in the case of an injury to one of the Pirates outfielders.
