Jonny Gomes pitched the top of the ninth in the Braves 15-4 loss to the Yankees on Friday night.
Fantasy Impact
Gomes recorded a strikeout and did not walk a batter, but also gave up two earned runs on three hits, including a home run to Chris Young. If this was an audition for the Braves bullpen, Gomes hardly looked much worse than the ones that are currently in it.
Gomes went 1-for-2 with a solo shot, a walk, and two runs scored in the sixth of the Braves 6-3 loss to the Rockies on Wednesday night.
Fantasy Impact
Gomes still has some bop in his bat as he is good for the occasional HR. However, at this stage of his career, he is simply too erratic as a platoon player to start as a viable fantasy candidate at OF.
Gomes pinch-hit for Alex Wood in the sixth with a strikeout. He stayed in the game in LF, drew a walk, and scored an insurance run as the Braves won 5-2.
Fantasy Impact
Gomes is blind dart-throw at best. At this stage in his career, he is more of a clubhouse presence than a reliable fantasy option.
The former Red Sox had an emotional return to Fenway Park as he went hitless playing left-field. The Red Sox played a video for Gomes, who was their LF for their 2013 championship team. The highlights included the emotional moment in the victory parade when Gomes placed the World Series trophy at the Boston Marathon finish line.
Fantasy Impact
If leadership abilities were a category in your fantasy league, Gomes would be a valuable asset. Nonetheless, the platoon OF is batting .209 on the season and is not worth a look in standard leagues.
Gomes has struggled at the plate this season as he carries a .227/.327/.477 slash line. His homer today was his third thus far this season. He is steadily losing playing time to Kelly Johnson.
Fantasy Impact
In most formats, Gomes has no value in fantasy leagues.
