Joaquin Benoit has been traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter.
Fantasy Impact
The Pirates just dealt reliever Tony Watson prior to Monday's 4 PM deadline, so it is a little strange to see them turn around and acquire a veteran bullpen piece. However, the price for Benoit is likely cheap, and he is a candidate to be moved again during the waiver period. The Pirates are just 5 1/2 games back in the standings, so Benoit gives them another option in the bullpen while they try to make a run at the division.
Joaquin Benoit pitched one inning allowing only a walk Sunday against the D-Backs. He earned his ninth hold of the season.
Fantasy Impact
If you're in the need of a holds guy, Benoit would be a nice addition to your lineup. He'll get you some strike outs and have a decent ERA. With the Phillies closer situation he may even get a couple of saves, but don't count on that.
Joaquin Benoit pitched one inning allowing one hit while striking out one against the D-backs Friday.
Fantasy Impact
Benoit isn't the relief pitch he once was but will get his fair share of holds if you're in a league that has holds as a category.
Joaquin Benoit entered a tie game in the seventh inning and went on to allow five earned runs in 1/3 of an inning as the Phillies lost to the Mariners 11-6.
Fantasy Impact
This was Benoit's worst appearance of a season in which he has a 5.79 ERA out of the bullpen. He is part of a Phillies' bullpen that is struggling mightily right now and really has no defined structure two weeks into May.
Phillies' RP Joaquin Benoit made quick work of the eighth inning in the team's 7-4 win over the Marlins. He retired the side in order to record his fifth hold of the season.
Fantasy Impact
Benoit's run as the team's closer looks all but over. He now looks to be slotted in as the set-up man for closer Hector Neris.
