Jeurys Familia has been designated for assignment by the Athletics.
Fantasy Impact
Familia was not able to find a groove in his stint in Oakland, sporting a 6.39 ERA and 6.39 K/9 in 14 appearances. He will likely become a free agent.
Jeurys Familia was unable to close out the game for the Athletics Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits while also walking two and striking out two over one inning to blow the save chance and pick up the loss in a 3-2 defeat to the Reds.
Fantasy Impact
Familia has been extremely inconsistent in relief for the Athletics, allowing runs in five of his last nine relief appearances for the club. The 33-year-old continues to frustrate when called upon by manager Mark Kotsay, posting an abysmal 6.57 ERA and 1.95 WHIP to go along with eight strikeouts and two saves in 13 relief appearances so far this season.
Jeurys Familia escaped with a save in relief for the Athletics Monday night, allowing two runs on two hits while also walking one and striking out one in one inning of an 11-10 win over the Angels.
Fantasy Impact
Familia is in the middle of a rocky stretch out of the bullpen for the Athletics, allowing runs in four of his last seven relief appearances for the club. The right-hander offers minimal value combined with extreme volatility on the mound when called upon, posting a 5.73 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with five strikeouts and two saves in 11 relief appearances so far this season.
Jeurys Familia tossed a scoreless ninth inning on the mound in relief for the Athletics, walking one and registering the save in a 5-4 win over the Rangers.
Fantasy Impact
Familia has struggled with consistency on the mound in relief for the Athletics, allowing runs in three of his last six relief appearances for the club. The veteran right-hander will likely continue to see the few save opportunities an underwhelming Oakland club can muster for the 33-year-old, although the 5.40 ERA and 1.50 WHIP leave plenty to be desired so far this season.
Oakland A's reliever Jeurys Familia blew his first save of the season Wednesday versus the Baltimore Orioles.
Fantasy Impact
It wasn't your traditional blown save as Familia came on in the seventh inning with a 4-2 lead but allowed two hits and the tying run to score. The A's brought Familia back into the fold after he failed to crack the D-backs roster out of camp and outside of Wednesday's outing he's been rather solid with a 3.38 ERA in six appearances already this season. The owner of a career 3.51 ERA, Familia struggled to a 6.09 ERA last season but posted an ERA of 3.94 or better in three of his previous four seasons.
