Jeanmar Gomez allowed a hit and two walks, but managed to pitch a scoreless inning in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

In five relief appearances this month, Gomez has yet to surrender an earned run, walking four and striking out nine. Without any save opportunities, fantasy owners don't have any reason to roster him, though.

He recorded two quick outs in the ninth, but gave up a leadoff double in the 10th that would come around to score. Gomez had eight strikeouts over his preview two appearances, but lost his touch in the 10th. He doesn't have much fantasy value and shouldn't be owned.

He struck out the side in the fifth, and then added a couple more in the sixth. He did hit a batter and give up a hit, but he had a great night after giving up three run in one inning last time out.

Jeanmar Gomez struggled and gave up a four-run lead on Thursday. One of the runs was charged to Lucas Giolito, but Gomez gave up some big hits.

Fantasy Impact

He had allowed just four runs in all of August and none over his last five appearances, but Thursday was a different story. He gave up three runs, including a homer, in 2/3 of an inning. He had been having such a great month. Hopefully this is just a blip, but we'll see how he responds next time out. Gomez should not be owned in fantasy leagues.

The Phillies have designated Jeanmar Gomez for assignment.

Gomez entered the season as the team's closer, and now he'll be looking for work elsewhere. That opportunity figures to come with him available on the cheap. The Phillies will be required to pick up his remaining salary.
