Jairo Diaz avoided arbitration by signing a one-year deal with the Rockies.
Fantasy Impact
Diaz blew up in 2020, posting a 7.65 ERA in 20 innings. His 13.2% walk rate needs to come down to have any success as a key cog to a bullpen.
Rockies manager Bud Black says the team will no longer use a "designated closer."
Fantasy Impact
Jairo Diaz was brutal on Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two unearned runs while walking three and allowing one hit. Perhaps Daniel Bard will factor into the saves mix moving forward. He has looked excellent this year and is worth a speculative add.
Jairo Diaz picked up his third save of the week on Thursday night, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings as the Rockies beat the Giants 6-4.
Fantasy Impact
Diaz has given up just one earned run through 5 1/3 innings this season. Both Scott Oberg and Wade Davis remain away from the team, which means Diaz is locked in as Colorado's closer for the time being. He needs to be owned in every league right now.
Jairo Diaz gave up a run on two hits but still managed to earn the save in Monday's win over the Giants.
Fantasy Impact
This certainly wasn't the cleanest save. Diaz actually allowed two runs but just one was earned. It's always risky gambling on a Rockies closer due to half his games coming in Coors Field, but Diaz is at least locked into the role right now.
Jairo Diaz recorded the final out of Colorad's 9-6 win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, picking up his first save of the season in the process.
Fantasy Impact
The Rockies had a four-run lead entering the ninth but when things got hairy manager Bud Black summoned Diaz, who got the job done. Both Wade Davis and Scott Oberg are on the injured list at the moment, which means Diaz could pick up saves in the time being. He's worth adding for fantasy managers who are desperate in roto leagues.
