Thomas received the start because Zack Greinke was placed on paternity leave. He probably won't receive too many starts in the future, but you never know because of the injuries that have ravaged the Dodgers starting rotation. Just remember that he shut down an offensively challenged Mets team.

With Kershaw's gem on Thursday, the bullpen is fresh so Thomas may not be asked to go too long. He is pitching against the Mets, though, so he could be an option.
