Blue Jays RHP Gavin Floyd pitched 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Wednesday, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Fantasy Impact
Floyd will begin the season in the bullpen, but if he keeps up these quality outings, may find himself starting by late-summer, barring no injuries to the rotation. Aaron Sanchez will have his innings limited and Floyd will likely relieve him at certain times.
Gavin Floyd will pitch out of the bullpen as the Blue Jays' long reliever to start the new season. Floyd lost out on the competition for the team's fifth starter role to Aaron Sanchez.
Fantasy Impact
Floyd pitched well this spring, but Sanchez was better and carries more upside for the Jays. Floyd may be worth a pickup later in the season as he'll be the first candidate to enter the rotation, but he loses most all of his potential value, which was already limited entering the new year.
Rotation hopeful Gavin Floys was very good on Sunday, shutting the Pirates out for 4 1/3 innings. He allowed fours hits and two walks and struck out two.
Fantasy Impact
Floyd's spring ERA is now down to 2.19, and while he has not looked extremely impressive, the results are there. The battle for the fifth spot is pretty much down to Floyd and Aaron Sanchez, who is pitching even better than Gavin Floyd right now.
Blue Jays rotation hopeful Gavin Floyd threw three strong innings on Sunday, allowing one run and striking out five.
Fantasy Impact
Floyd is in a battle with Aaron Sanchez and Jesse Chavez for the fifth starter, but Sanchez seems to be the favorite right now. Floyd definitely narrowed that gap today when he struck out the side in the sixth inning.
On Tuesday, the Indians activated RHP Gavin Floyd from the DL.
Fantasy Impact
Pre-season, the Indians were hoping for 100+ innings from Gavin Floyd. Following his injury, they expected him to be out all season, so any innings he can offer in September will be a bonus. Expect the 32-year-old to work exclusively out of the bullpen as the Indians tread carefully with his comeback. He only made nine starts in an injury-shortened season last year with a 2.65 ERA. Floyd could be worth a flier in deep, keeper leagues, especially was he will have RP eligibility for 2016.
