Edward Mujica pitches a scoreless ninth

Edward Mujica pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's game against the Mariners. He worked around two hits to keep the Mariners off the board.

Fantasy Impact

Mujica now has a 4.33 ERA and 29 strikeouts on the year. With Drew Pomeranz taking hold of the closer's job in Oakland, Mujica is not on the fantasy radar.

Edward Mujica named new A's closer

In the wake of the Tyler Clippard trade to the New York Mets, Edward Mujica has been named the team's new closer going forward. Manager Bob Melvin cited Mujica's prior experience closing games as his rationale for the decision.

Fantasy Impact

Former closer Sean Doolittle's return to action this season is up in the air, so Mujica may have the job for the rest of the year. He has a 3.68 ERA this season and did save 37 games for the Cardinals in 2013. He's worth an add if your team is in need of saves.

Edward Mujica holds Yankees scoreless

Veteran reliever Edward Mujica held the Yankees scoreless for one and one-third of an inning on Wednesday evening. He only allowed one base runner which came on a base on balls.

Fantasy Impact

Mujica made his twelfth appearance on the year for the A's and has only given up three earned runs in 11.1 innings of work. That being said, he is not a fantasy asset unless he begins closing out games for the club, which does not appear likely.

Edward Mujica designated for assignment

The Red Sox have designated reliever Edward Mujica for assignment. Originally signed in 2013 for 2yrs/$9.5mil to be Boston's set up man, Mujica has recently found himself pitching in low level situations to the tune of a 4.61 ERA over 11 games.

Fantasy Impact

Mujica was seen as an early season source of saves while filling in for closer Koji Uehara. However, since Uehara's return Mujica has been relegated to 5th and 6th inning work and has not been much help. The Red Sox figure to make a move before Friday's series opener in Toronto. If no acquisitions come down the pipe, expect an internal option like Matt Barnes to get the call.

Edward Mujica blows save on Friday night

Edward Mujica served up a solo home run to Chase Headley in the ninth inning to blow a save and turn the game against the Yankees into a 19 inning marathon. He pitched one inning, giving up just the one hit while striking out one.

Fantasy Impact

With Koji Uehara coming back from injury next week, Edward Mujica will lose the closers role and be put back into setup. If you own Mujica and are needing saves keep an eye on the wire as his opportunities will disappear soon.
