The Rays designated Derek Norris for assignment on Saturday in order to activate Wilson Ramos off the 60-day DL.
Fantasy Impact
Norris had struggled this season, with just a .201 batting average and .638 OPS, and had been the subject of allegations of domestic abuse. He may catch on somewhere as a backup, but he's of no use in fantasy.
Derek Norris remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Back spasms kept Norris from Sunday's game, and it seems his back is still presenting issues even after a team off-day Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Norris has been a disappointment for fantasy owners this season hitting .195. With Wilson Ramos scheduled to return from injury soon, Norris will see his playing time reduced. He can be cut in all leagues.
In Sunday's final game versus the Yankees, Norris went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. He is now hitting .228/.297/.665 with four home runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base.
Fantasy Impact
He has come a long way since batting .186 last year but he is not all the way there yet. At his best he will be a .250 hitter with 15 or so home runs. He will not be your fantasy star but if you are in desperate need of a catcher he remains a viable option.
In Tuesday's close win against the Orioles, Norris went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.
Fantasy Impact
Thing have not been good for him this year, he is hitting .155/.190/.363 with six runs batted in. He is beginning to get closer to the risk of demotion or release.
Derek Norris started behind the dish for Tampa Bay on Friday night, going just 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
Fantasy Impact
Norris is hitting just .167 on the season so far. He holds minuscule value as is, and it will all but evaporate once Wilson Ramos returns.
