David Murphy has been released by the Twins. He told reporters that he's likely "done playing."
Fantasy Impact
Murphy was cut by the Red Sox before camp broke this spring, and he signed with the Twins to see if he could return to the majors. While it's not yet official, Murphy indicated that he's decided to retire from the game of baseball.
With Murphy opting out of his contract, the Red Sox have 48 hours to decide whether they want him on their opening day roster or let him become a free agent.
Fantasy Impact
Murphy will probably catch on with another team if he becomes a free agent but he does not have much fantasy relevance just yet. If Murphy can get regular at bats than he might be worth a look as a fill in for daily lineups or DFS. Until than leave him on the waiver wire.
David Murphy has signed a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox for a chance to make the club out of camp.
Fantasy Impact
There is no real fantasy relevance here unless Murphy does make the squad and multiple injuries occur. Keep him off your radar for now.
Murphy is in the lineup and batting leadoff against the Twins on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Fantasy Impact
Batting lead-off on Sunday against the Twins, Murphy went 1-3 to move his hitting streak up to six games. During this streak he has had two home runs and six RBI's for the Angels. He should be able to put up great numbers with Trout, Calhoun, and Pujols batting behind him. Look for him to continue to have a hot month of September if you need him in your lineup.
David Murphy hit a three-run homer and Mike Trout added a solo shot to power the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 victory over Felix Hernandez and the Mariners on Tuesday night.
Fantasy Impact
Murphy hit a three-run shot on Tuesday off Hernandez in the 3rd inning. This was his first home run since hitting one in back-to-back games to start September. Murphy should continue to see good looks at the plate with Albert Pujols and Trout only a couple spots back of him in the order. For now, he continues to be a boom or bust player.
