The Reds designated David Buchanan for assignment.
Fantasy Impact
Buchanan has been DFA'd to make room for Brandon Williamson getting activated from the injured list. He'll remain in the Reds organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
The Phillies signed David Buchanan to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training.
Fantasy Impact
Buchanan spent the past seven seasons overseas. He spent the past three years with the Samsung Lions in Korea. He rejoins the Phillies who he last pitched for in the MLB in 2015.
Phillies made two cuts today optioning David Buchanan and Alec Asher to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Fantasy Impact
Neither of these cuts are surprises. Asher, in particular, struggled the spring posting a rough 7.88 ERA, while Buchanan posted a pedestrian 4.50 ERA. Both can be left on the wire, as neither pitcher looks poised to do anything more than make occasional spot starts.
The Saint Louis Cardinals are the latest team to victimize David Buchanan, putting up 7 runs in just 4.1 innings. This extends Buchanan's early struggles which have left him with an 8.76 ERA and 1.91 WHIP through 5 starts.
Fantasy Impact
At this point, there are virtually no redeeming qualities about David Buchanan for fantasy purposes. The closest thing to a bright spot is that the Phillies organization is shallow enough that there aren't any immediate in-house options to replace him. Fortunately, fantasy owners have the rest of the league to look to and should be doing so at this point.
After being hit around in his first two starts, David Buchanan was unable to get his season on track. Sunday afternoon featured a 4 run effort by the Nationals, 3 of which came against Buchanan over 5 innings of work.
Fantasy Impact
Although still unable to lo a win or Quality Start, David Buchanan has shown some level of improvement, dropping his ERA and WHIP in each game he has pitched. Both stats still sit in unusable territory at 9.22 and 2.27 respectively, but the silver lining is that Buchanan does appear to be improving slowly. With the Phillies lack of rotation depth, Buchanan is safe for now and his slow but steady progress will be worth watching.
