Daniel Castano has been designated for assignment by the Marlins.
Fantasy Impact
This move was made to clear a spot for newly acquired Johnny Cueto. Castano pitched in 10 games (seven starts) for the Marlins in 2022, compiling a 4.04 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 20-to-9 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old lefty will now hope to land a spot on another club's 40-man roster.
Daniel Castano's CT scan results came back normal after he was struck in the head by a line drive in Thursday's start against the Reds.
Fantasy Impact
Thankfully, Castano seems to have avoided serious injury following a scary moment on the mound Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati. The 27-year-old lefty was hit in the head by a line drive in the first inning and immediately exited the contest. Castano was making his first start for the Marlins since July 12 after being optioned back to Triple-A just prior to the All-Star break.
Daniel Castano has been optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
Castano was up for a month with the Marlins, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 20 strikeouts over five starts. He'll most likely be up with the big club again at some point this season.
Daniel Castano worked five innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out three.
Fantasy Impact
Castano continues to be not great but not awful for the Marlins. Over six starts since joining the rotation in mid-June, the 27-year-old lefty has posted a 4.35 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 18-to-9 K/BB ratio across 31 innings. He is in line to return to the mound in a tough matchup versus the Phillies on Sunday.
Daniel Castano lasted four innings in Thursday's 10-0 loss to the Mets, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and no walks while striking out two.
Fantasy Impact
This was a tough one for Castano who was coming off a couple of solid outings. The 27-year-old southpaw got through the first two frames unscathed, but the Mets jumped on him in the next two. Castano is now carrying a 3.60 ERA and lofty 1.47 WHIP over 30.0 MLB innings on the year. He is in line for a more favorable matchup with the Pirates on Tuesday.
