Cory Luebke throws first bullpen session

Cory Luebke threw his first bullpen session yesterday. Luebke is recovering from his second Tommy John surgery within 21 months. He didn't have any setbacks after his workout.

Fantasy Impact

Luebke will need to build up his arm strength and pitch count before he gets put on the Padres 25 man roster. I wouldn't expect him back until after the All-Star break. He could find himself a spot in the rotation if he makes it back but that also depends on the health and production of the Padres rotation when that time comes.

Cory Luebke on the way back from two surgeries

Cory Luebke estimated Thursday that he's a month away from throwing off a mound. Making his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, Luebke has gone through a long-toss program and is currently playing catch at 60 feet. He's set to begin the season in extended spring training.

Fantasy Impact

After a promising first year as a starter back in 2011, 2012 was going to be the year that Luebke becomes the Ace of the team. Starting the year going 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA, he was on his way. Until elbow tightness derailed his season, leading to the Tommy John surgery. Luebke was then expected back after the All-Star break in 2013, only to be shut down after some bullpen sessions. Then in February 2014 Luebke announced he had a tear in the UCL needing reconstructive surgery. How Cory comes back from all this surgery is mystery to everyone. If he can pitch like he did back in 2012, then you might get an top pitcher very late in the draft.
