1B/OF Chris Colabello had a great day at the plate on Sunday in the Cactus League win over the Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a 3-run home run.
Fantasy Impact
The non-roster invitee has hit three home runs in Spring Training with .385 AVG (15-for-39). With Carlos Santana and Edwin Encarnacion, the Indians are set at 1B/DH. Colabello could be offered a Minor League deal to provide depth if injuries hit. The right-hander has a career .257/.317/.740 slash line with 28 home in runs in 727 at-bats.
1B/OF Chris Colabello went 1-for-2 with a walk in the Indians' Cactus League loss to the Giants on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
The 33-year-old non-roster invitee has appeared in nine Spring Training games, allowing the Indians to have a good look before he departs to represent Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. The right-hander has gone 6-for-17 with one home run, two RBI and five walks. He was good in 2015 with .886 OPS but missed most of last season following a PED suspension. He seems unlikely to make the Indians' 40-man roster.
Chris Colabello has been activated from serving his 80-game suspension, but he was sent to Triple-A.
Fantasy Impact
He'll remain in the minors for the time being, as he wasn't impressive prior to his suspension in the early going of 2016. Colabello became a fan favorite last season, and he provided fantasy value, but his future with the team isn't clear at this point.
Chris Colabello has begun a minor league rehab assignment for the Blue Jays' Single-A affiliate. He is eligible to return from his 80-game ban for PED use on July 23.
Fantasy Impact
Colabello was one of the great stories in baseball last season, but he struggled mightily in the early going prior to his ban. He only posted an OPS of .225 with two hits in 29 at-bats. It's unclear what his role will be with the team when he returns.
On Friday, Major League Baseball suspended Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello for 80 games after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Fantasy Impact
His suspension is effective immediately after testing positive for an anabolic steroid sold under the name Turinabol. After a stellar first season with the Blue Jays in 2015 in which he hit .321 with 15 HR and 54 RBI, the 32-year-old has only hit .069 in 10 games this year. Justin Smoak will fill in for Colabello at 1B for the time being.
