After cruising through 5 innings Saturday night Chad Billingsley was pulled due to tightness in his elbow. Billingsley has been plagued by injuries all season and this appears to be another one that will land him on the DL.
Fantasy Impact
Bilingsley can not seem to catch a break right now. In what was his best start of the season, 5 shutout innings with 3 Ks and only 3 base-runners allowed, he suffered another injury. Unfortunately, any fantasy momentum he may have been building has been halted now until the extent of his injury is known.
Chad Billingsley found a groove against the Dodgers on the road, going 7 strong innings through which he gave up just 2 runs. The start marks Billingsley's first win on the season as he tries to resurrect his career.
Fantasy Impact
While holding the Dodgers to just 2 earned runs is impressive, this isn't exactly a coming out party for Bilingsley. The 3 Ks limits his fantasy appeal before even considering the fact that he has given up 5 or more in 3 of his 5 starts this season. Keep watching before pulling the trigger on Billingsley in even the deepest leagues.
According to CSNPhilly, the Philadelphia Phillies have been forced to place Chad Bilingsley on the 15 day DL to help him cope with a strained right shoulder.
Fantasy Impact
The inury is unfortunate as Billingsley had turned in his best outing of the season on Friday against the Pirates. Moving forward though, the Phillies have announced that Hector Neris will replace Billingsley for the time being.
Billingsley's stat line looked very similar to his first start, 5 innings, 5 runs, 8 hits, and 1 walk. The only difference was that he managed to fan one extra batter in a losing effort to the New York Mets at home.
Fantasy Impact
Billingsley didn't look any better in his second trip to the mound for the Phillies and fantasy owners. Bad WHIP, poor ERA, he failed to qualify for a W or QS all while striking out just 3 batters. Billlingsley isn't contributing in an categories right now and should be avoided.
After two years and two elbow surgeries, Chad Billingsley made his return to the MLB. Unfortunately for him, and the Philies, he gave up 5 runs over 5 innings to the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Impact
Nothing stood out about Billingsley's performance that should instill any sense of hope that he can return to the guy who pitched to a 3.56 ERA. However, after such a lengthy absence, owners should give him a few more starts before they decide if he is fantasy relevant or not.
