Casey Lawrence signed a minor league deal with the Mariners with an invite to Spring Training.
Fantasy Impact
Lawrence was in the Cardinals organization last year. He'll look to earn an Opening Day role in the Mariners bullpen out of Spring Training.
Casey Lawrence was called up from Triple-A Tacoma Saturday.
Fantasy Impact
Casey Lawrence was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. The 29-year-old right hander has been a frequent commuter on the shuttle between Tacoma and Seattle. He was last optioned to Tacoma on Tuesday after pitching four innings of relief against Baltimore. Since coming to the Mariners after he was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on May 11, he is 1-0 with a 5.64 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Lawrence has been used almost exclusively in low-leverage situations, and is of little value in fantasy lineups. In a corresponding move, the Mariners activated outfielder Mitch Haniger from the disabled list.
Casey Lawrence was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Fantasy Impact
Lawrence, who is unavailable to pitch the next couple of days following his four-inning outing on Monday, was optioned to Tacoma on Tuesday. Since being recalled to Seattle on July 28, the 29-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He did record a fine 18/2 K/9 over 13 innings, but was subject to the long-ball, surrendering four home runs in that span (2.8 HR/9). In a corresponding move, the Mariners recalled Sam Gaviglio from the Rainiers.
Casey Lawrence will start for the Blue Jays on Saturday against the Angels. Mat Latos, who was also called up, will start Friday night.
Fantasy Impact
Lawrence likely won't have much fantasy value and will probably be shuffled, along with Mat Latos and possibly Mike Bolsinger, as the Blue Jays fifth starter team while J.A. Happ and Aaron Sanchez recovery from their various injuries.
