The Astros have reassigned Brice Matthews to minor league camp Thursday, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
Fantasy Impact
Matthews, one of Houston’s top prospects, went 3-for-16 with a triple this spring but was never a serious candidate for the Opening Day roster. The 22-year-old finished the 2024 season at Triple-A Sugar Land and will return there to start the 2025 campaign. With continued development, he could push for a big league debut later in the season.
Brice Matthews will start at second base in the Astros’ first game of the spring.
Fantasy Impact
Matthews could compete for a backup spot at both second base and shortstop with Jose Altuve potentially playing some games in the outfield. That would likely come later in the season if it's the case.
