Braden Shipley was recalled from Triple-A Reno Saturday and should make at least one start.
Fantasy Impact
The Diamondbacks have three starters on the DL and will turn to Shipley for at least one start after Kris Medlen got hammered the other day. The 26-year-old hasn't pitched all that well in six starts with Reno as his ERA sits at 6.40.
Braden Shipley allowed just three hits over seven innings in the Diamondbacks' 9-0 shutout of the Mets on Thursday.
Fantasy Impact
Shipley made it look easy against the mets. He needed just 78 pitches to get through seven with seven strikeouts and one walk. The Diamondbacks were watching his pitch count, but he could have had a complete-game shutout today.
Top prospect Braden Shipley earned the win in his second career start, pitching six scoreless innings in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shipley allowed five hits and a walk and struck out six. This performance was a vast improvement from his debut in Milwaukee (5.1 IP, 6 ER) when he allowed three home runs.
Fantasy Impact
If you picked up Shipley for his debut and didn't drop him after that disaster, you were rewarded for your faith. Coming into the season, Shipley was in the top-20 of most MLB Prospect lists and is widely considered the top prospect for the Diamondbacks. In dynasty leagues, he is probably unavailable, but this performance showed what he is capable of. There will be ups and downs this season as there are with any rookie pitcher, but the talent is definitely there.
Braden Shipley, the Diamondbacks' 2013 1st-round pick and a top-40 (#19, Keith Law; #40 MLB.com) prospect, has been reassigned a few hundred yards to the team's minor league camp. Shipley appeared in two games in his first taste of big league camp, giving up one run in four innings. Shipley struck out 127 batters in 126 innings pitched across three levels in 2014, pitching to a 3.86 ERA.
Fantasy Impact
Either the #1 or #2 pitching prospect for Arizona (along with the somewhat more well-known Archie Bradley) according to most lists, Shipley, who just turned 23, was a long-shot to make the club out of spring training. He did nothing during his brief time in major league camp to sour future expectations, though and should still be targeted in dynasty drafts as a future #2 (upside) - #3 (likely) starter.
